Dawson, GA, is a quiet town nestled between the Chattahoochee River on the west and the Flint on the east
with a population of 6,000. Its geographical location is in the southwest quadrant of the state, 150 miles south of
Atlanta, 47 miles from the Alabama line. Being located in the heart of the peanut belt, the area is basically
agricultural with peanuts and cotton being the major crops. The beginning of the city of Dawson was the purchase
of 100 acres of land in 1856. The town was named Dawson for the US Senator from GA, William Crosby Dawson.
