Camilla, Georgia, a community of Old South Charm with a New South Vision is the county seat of Mitchell County.
Camilla is located in the heart of southwest Georgia's most productive farming area, between Albany and Thomasville.
Mitchell County was created by an act of the State Legislature in 1875 and named in honor of Revolutionary
War Hero General Henry Mitchell. The City of Camilla was incorporated the following year and was named for General
Mitchell's granddaughter. Camilla's earliest economic growth was associated with the processing of the food and
agricultural products of the area. Agriculture remains a strong component of the community today.
